I want to reevaluate this map from
Obóz straceń w Treblince.
"5. Places of burial and burning of corpses."
It has a different map key than the map included in
Obóz zagłady Treblinka.
"10. Places where corpses are burned."
There's no context for the first map, since
Obóz straceń w Treblince doesn't seem to be online. I think it's just the same Polish investigation report as
Obóz zagłady Treblinka,
which is online.
(We'll ignore that the compass on both maps is incorrect.)
The 25m x 7.5m bomb crater was in the expected area of the gas chambers:
A series of test excavations was performed at the place where the [gas] chambers had to have been located, in order to find their foundation walls if possible.
...
The largest of the craters produced by explosions (numerous fragments attest to the fact that these explosions were set off by bombs), which is at maximum 6 meters deep and has a diameter of about 25 meters.
- Mattogno, Treblinka, pp 85-86.
If there were stinking, decomposing intestines, they were just as likely to be Polish treasure hunters indelicate with their use of explosives as Jews buried 3-4 years previously.
The 2-hectare area is not discussed in the context of the bomb craters:
In the northeastern part of the site, covering an area of approximately 2 hectares, there are masses of ashes mixed with sand. Numerous human bones, often with remnants of decomposed tissue, are found in the ashes and sand. During an examination conducted with the participation of a medical expert, it was determined that the ashes were undoubtedly of human origin (remains of partially charred human bones). Examination of numerous human skulls revealed that they bore no signs of traumatic injuries.
A bomb crater is not a mass grave. Scattered surface remains are not a mass grave.
Then the report concludes this about mass graves:
During the investigation, no mass graves were found during field work, which, in connection with the testimonies of witnesses, leads to the assumption that almost all the bodies of the victims were burned.
This is all from 1945, when Judge Łukaszkiewicz went to T-II, along with Rachel Auerbach and 13 supposed witnesses and survivors of the supposed Treblinka Revolt:
- Jankiel Wiernik
- Henryk Poswolski
- Abe Kon
- Aron Czechowicz
- Oskar Strawczyński
- Samuel Reisman
- Aleksander Kudlik
- Hejnoch Brener
- Stanisław Kon
- Eugeniusz Turowski
- Henryk Reichman
- Szyja Warszawski
- Leon Finkelsztein
So we have 13 witnesses, an official investigation, and one map key that agree on
no mass graves, as well as indeterminate scattered human remains. By contrast, one map key suggests the mass graves and burning sites are in the exact same location.
