The Tattooist of Auschwitz is a 2018 book by New Zealand author Heather Morris. It purports to be the "true story" of one Lale Sokolov, who was imprisoned at Auschwitz in 1942. In fact, Heather Morris reliability first to last and the reliability of the Series is questioned by the Auschwitz State Museum.

The article is https://www.auschwitz.org/en/museum/new ... ,1688.html
The book [by Heather Morris] was promoted as a "true story". In practice, however, the text's relation to the realities of the camp was at least questionable, and the historical accuracy was not merely questionable but false...
The errors documented...indicate the author's deficiency in historical knowledge and research skills..."
It is reasonable to label "The Tattooist of Auschwitz" a disgraceful Holocaust exploitation job.
Unfortunately Heather Morris has sold millions of copies of her gross distortions and exaggerations.

I've seen this in book stores. Evidently it's been a big seller, so much so that it is now a three book series. It's marketed as a novel. Of course many of the survivor memoirs are also essentially novels but those are officially considered to be non-fiction.

Most of this stuff is so maudlin I can't tolerate more than a couple of pages. For books that are of some importance (Nyiszli, Wiesel, etc), I will force myself to grind through them.

I remember there was some similar criticism of the absurd show on Amazon Prime called Hunters. The show had these flashback concentration camp scenes that were so absurd that Holocaust museums were complaining. The problem is that if you have a show or book that just makes up crazy stuff, there are some idiots who will eat it up of course, but a lot of others are going to be rolling their eyes. And once they start to view these camp stories with a degree of skepticism that's a very slippery slope since there's very little to distinguish the made-up stories from the "true" stories.

A scene from Hunters with a murderous human chess game (lol)

I don't know what the hell I just watched, but it still wasn't as crazy a dump trucks full of jewish babies being dumped into a river of fire at Auschwitz as described in 'night'.

A question for the mods:

This is maybe the 3rd or 4th thread in quick succession about a book / video / podcast: Do we need a dedicated forum for media and media reviews? Might be worth considering!
