But his 2021 dissertation is also substantially identical to his 2016 master's thesis. The dissertation might just be edited with a couple new chapters.

Gibbs seems like an unlikely Jewish studies professor. Gentile name. Looks very Gentile. University of Wyoming for undergrad. Iraq war veteran.

I guess this is what a goy has to do to get a university job nowadays. It comes down to money and incentives. The universities crave that sweet Jewish donor money so we end up with the Zucker/Goldberg Center for Holocaust Studies at the College of Charleston of all places. And if that's who's hiring people will position themselves for those jobs. In contrast, there's no Harry Elmer Barnes Chair of Revisionist Studies. This is how Gentiles have been recruited to the Holocaust field since the 1980s. Browning was the real pioneer with this, I think. He anticipated things very well by getting into it in the mid to late 70s. He made a good career for himself at Pacific Lutheran University and eventually got an even better gig as the Frank Porter Graham Professor of History at UNC. Browning, like Gibb, got his PhD at the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
