Re: The Question of Conspiracy

I think you missed the point regarding Allied interrogations. They were much wider than a focus on the extermination of the Jews, while many German officials and officers were extremely happy to talk. Speer's interrogations by the Strategic Bombing Survey is one example. Hoettl is another excellent ...

Re: The Question of Conspiracy

... Once later trials were under way, defendants and their lawyers could and did try full negationist routines without consequences... Could you please provide an example of what you mean by "full negationist"? denial of knowledge denial of involvement (it wasn't me, I didn't do it) denial of a one ...

Re: The Question of Conspiracy

So why did literally no one push back further and explain what actually happened? This should have been general knowledge within the SS. Hoettl, Kaltenbrunner, Wisliceny and others should have been able to explain what happened. But none did, and instead they admitted knowledge of mass ...

Re: The Question of Conspiracy

I meant statement in a broad sense, not necessarily an affidavit. Documents from 1943 would probably be in the form of a memo, letter, diary, whatever. The point is that the context of the postwar statements has to be considered. They had just lost the war and were under military occupation and ...

Re: Ryan Faulk: The Jewish Population Miracle

Nick, can you provide the primary sources that back up your claims? This thread provided the primary sources for their arguments so I would say it's fair you do as well, especially since as a historian you surely have access to the sources you are talking about. The AJC archives site, of course ...

Re: The Question of Conspiracy

Sorry, it's still a museum-related issue, because of the 1946 Sehn report. That was republished in an expanded version in 1957, also in German, and the 1957 version also notes the conversion of Krema I to an air-raid shelter. The book used a photo from the Zentralbauleitung album of Krematorium IV ...

Re: The Question of Conspiracy

How could you assure me that the Soviets/Poles/Jews building a fake gas chamber on top of the remains of a bomb shelter at Auschwitz and then deceptively presenting it to the world as an original structure for decades is anything other than a conspiracy? You can't give me assurance that this wasn't ...

Re: Ryan Faulk: The Jewish Population Miracle

On the prewar statistics for world Jewish population, the AJYB in 1938, 1939, 1940 is visibly shifting from relying on very outdated figures for the US and Soviet Union to more recent ones. The US figure used in the 1938 yearbook dated back to 1927 and was just over 4.2 million; the 1937 survey was ...

Re: The Question of Conspiracy

Selection Bias This is not even a controversial point, i.e., it's not just "Holocaust deniers" who say this. The plain fact is that the documents for the war crimes were cherry-picked by the prosecution..... There was at the very least a skewed selection of documents. 'Selection bias' or skewing is ...

Re: No Sources, No History

Rather poor fisking from you, Callafangers. Indeed, fisking like this is a sign that you might not be able to sum up a proper response, in a more classic format, especially as you contradicted yourself, complaining about unsourced assertions ('trust me bro') then accusing me of a Gish Gallop when I ...

Re: "Direct" vs "indirect" arguments and evidence

One problem here is the discussion especially from the 'revisionist' side keeps slipping to the Reinhard camps only, as in your post above which mentioned BST and did not mention Auschwitz, Chelmno, the other KZs, T4 or the mass shootings. If you haven't noticed by now, I am definitely not a "camp ...

Re: "Direct" vs "indirect" arguments and evidence

The Reinhard camps appear to be the weak spot, one reason being because there aren't clear-cut documents referencing gassing as there are for Auschwitz and Chelmno, but they're bracketed by the other camps and the wider east with numerous mass shootings through to the Caucasus, and tied in to the ...

Re: "Direct" vs "indirect" arguments and evidence

No, Ortskommandantur Ostrow did not pass on a rumour, it is not stated to be a rumour but is the summary of an evidently official report through military reporting channels which landed in the war diary of the quartermaster officer for the Wehrmachtbefehlshaber im Generalgouvernement. This is an ...

Re: "Direct" vs "indirect" arguments and evidence

Archie, in syllogistic terms what is being objected to is the reverse claim in one of your syllogisms The Jews were either holocausted or they were resettled They were not holocausted Therefore they were resettled It's not symmetric, imo. Search Domain There is the familiar adage "you can't prove a ...
